Tasting Notes: Crystalline bright, with a barely perceptible yellow colour The nose displays distinct mineral notes that verge on metallic, along with rapidly alternating layers of intriguing vegetal aromas such as chili pepper, tomato leaf, and lime, and the attractive mouthfeel features the liveliest acidity seen in years. In short, an intensely aromatic wine with a full flavoured palate.

Producer Details: Caliterra was established in 1996 as a joint venture between the families of Robert Mondavi and Viña Errazuriz. In January 2004 Viña Errazuriz became the sole owners of Caliterra, at the heart of which is the impressive 1000ha Caliterra Estate.
The name Caliterra is taken from 'Calidad' Spanish for quality and 'Tierra' - land. The wine making philosophy of Caliterra is to produce environmentally friendly, quality wines in the heart of the Colchagua Valley. The focus is around the Caliterra estate in Colchagua where 288ha are currently under vine. Crucially a large proportion of this estate, and all new plantings, are on prime hillside sites resulting in high quality fruit and complex wines.
Over the past few years, Caliterra has pioneered a move to sustainable wine production with the country's leading consultant; the four pillars of this approach are sustainable viticulture, community commitment, environmental preservation and eco friendly packaging. Caliterra is certified sustainable - one of the very first Chilean wineries to achieve this accreditation.

In The Vineyard: The grapes used in this Sauvignon Blanc were specially selected from our vineyard in the Curicó Valley. This valley's geography is diverse, beginning with the Andes Mountains at 3,000 meters (9,850 feet) above sea level and crowned by the Planchon and Peteroa Volcanoes, which give rise to the Teno and Lontue Rivers that provide irrigation water to the extensive vineyards. Our vineyard is located 210 km (130 miles) south of Santiago at latitude 35 degrees South in the foothills of the Andes Mountains. The vineyard was planted between 1992 and 1994 on granitic soils with low to medium vigour potential. The vines are vertically positioned, and the vineyard is drip irrigated. The altitude and cooler climate of this sector allows white varieties to ripen more slowly here than in the rest of the valley. Grapes grown here have intense, fresh aromas with elegant tropical and citrus characteristics.

In The Winery: The grapes were gently destemmed and cold macerated before pressing. The clean must was fermented at 12 14 degrees C (54-57 degrees F). Temperatures were kept low to preserve crispness, aromas, and intensity in the wine. After approximately three weeks all sugar levels had been converted to alcohol. Our Caliterra Reserva Sauvignon Blanc is unoaked, and the first bottles are ready to drink immediately after fermentation.
