Tasting Notes: Deep salmon pink, aromatic with fresh red fruits on the nose and surprising weight and body on the palate, this has real vinosity with a clean, zesty finish.

Producer Details: Domaine du Pre Semelé is located in Maimbray, a small hamlet between Sury and Verdigny to the north of the village of Sancerre in the beautiful Loire region of France. Brothers Julien & Clément now run the domaine they have inherited from their father, Rémy. Geographically and climatically, Sancerre has a distinctly continental climate with long, hot summers and severe winters, therefore hail and frost are common problems. The region is famous for making fine, dry wines.

In The Vineyard: Julien and Clément identify in advance the plots of Pinot Noir that will be chosen to make their rosé. The
grapes for this are grown mainly on the pebbly clay Caillottes soil giving a fuller fruitier style of wine. They are picked at optimum ripeness by machine to facilitate loading straight into the press.

In The Winery: The best rosé is made in the press so only the delicate aroma and flavour components just under the skin are gently extracted. This is 100% rosé de presse.

At Last - A Quality Sancerre Rose

thecardog - 06/06/2013

This is the first rose Sancerre that I have found to be worth the price. I score the wine 9/10. It is fresh, crisp and actually has some weight to it. Went well with pan fried Sea Bass.
