Tasting Notes: Trophy winning (again) and now Fairtrade Sauvignon Blanc from Casablanca. Fresh lime zest and green pepper aromas on the nose are carried through to the mineral palate which is alive with crunchy fruit, zest and a long, long zippy finish.

Producer Details: Emiliana is one of the world’s most important producers of Organic and Biodynamic wines. They have a total of 1,117 hectares under vine of which 750ha are IMO and Demeter certified organic. Their spectacular Biodynamic
vineyard and winery at Los Robles is a model that attracts visiting viticulturalists and winemakers from all over the world. Jose Guilsasti and Alvaro Espinosa (winemaking) were key to establishing this project but there is a wealth of young talent involved. These innovative wines are made with great care and attention and the results are inspiring.

In The Vineyard: Casablanca Valley is hugely influenced by its proximity to the cool breezes which blow in of the chilly Pacific Ocean. The vineyard soils are alluvial in origin, with sandy textures, high permeability, whose shallow depth restricts yield. These cooler temperatures and poor soils, in consequence, give great character in both flavour and aroma, especially for aromatic white varieties like Sauvignon Blanc.

In The Winery: The 2012 harvest was hand-picked at dawn in the first week of March. The vinification process took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks.
